About Jennifer

Jennifer Taber VanDerwerken is a freelance writer and editor.

Jennifer began her career in book publishing at St. Martin’s Press and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. In 2010, she made the switch to freelance writing for a diverse range of media outlets. Jennifer is the Managing Editor of Edible Capital District, and a frequent contributing food writer for the Times Union. She was the lead writer for the award-winning Beekman 1802 Almanac, where she penned features, artisan profiles, travel guides, food stories, and personal essays. She has written extensively about motherhood for Scary Mommy, Mother.ly, Grown and Flown, and Mini City Magazine . Jennifer has been featured on Design Mom and Cup of Jo.

Jennifer maintains a roster of longtime business clients who turn to her to give a strong marketing voice to their brand, and communicate with their clientele through regular newsletters, blog posts, social media content, and emails.

She is happiest with her husband and two sons, watching British television, hunting for vintage books and treasures, or fastidiously organizing any mess. She is a rampant bibliophile and podcast listener who credits the power of stories to touch and change us. She hates mashed potatoes, and knows she is largely alone in this.

Jennifer lives in upstate New York.
